Life Unfolding:
In the spring of 2008, I became curious about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s nomination of Thich Nhat Hanh for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. Spoiler alert, he didn’t win it. This was noted on the back cover of Thich Nhat Hanh’s book, The Art of Power. I came across the book in a Borders bookstore in the spring of 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia.  Also in 2008, I discovered Insight Meditation - A Step by Step Course on How to Meditate by Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein. Their book put me on the path of Insight Meditation practice and was a better match than the Zen meditation that I was trying out at the time. A few years later I discovered Adventures in Mindfulness, an audiobook by Jon Kabat-Zinn in our closet. According to the receipt in the book I had purchased it 6 months prior. The saying, when the student is ready the teacher will appear rings true here. This discovery led me to his online course Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, MBSR. I credit MBSR and my first teacher Rebecca Eldridge with giving me structure to my practice and setting me on the path of self-discovery. All of these discoveries led me to the path of mindfulness meditation, a continuous unfolding journey of a lifetime not to be missed. I have been influenced and received instruction from numerous teachers including Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein, Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach and for the last 4 years Ronya Banks, founder of Asheville Insight Meditation Center in Asheville, North Carolina. I believe meditation practice and life are one. Afterall, we spend much more time in our day-to-day activities than we do in formal meditation. With that said, I invite you to practice with me as we navigate the ups and downs of the human experience.
